Her work with ElderFriends earned it the NACO 2007 Acts of Caring Award and the 2000 Best New Organization Award. Her background also includes directing a non-profit teacher development program for San Francisco State University's Multicultural Alliance/Teaching Internship Program where she served for six years in creating teacher certification programs within universities and developing educators of color in public and private schools.
Mrs. Ware holds a MS in Gerontology from Virginia Commonwealth University, a BA in Sociology from San Francisco State University and an Advanced Certification in Gerontology from University of Washington at Seattle. She is also a graduate of the Grace E. Harris, Leadership Development Institute at Virginia Commonwealth University, 2006.
Mrs. Ware is serving as the full-time director, responsible for recruiting and training volunteers, supervising and training the Advocate Coordinator and is continuing to identify community agencies with whom to collaborate and include in the referral system.
Memberships and involvement include: American Society on Aging (ASA), Association for Volunteer Administration (AVA), Gerontological Society of America (GSA), Greater Richmond Association for Volunteer Administration (GRAVA), and Southern Gerontological Society.
